Job Overview

The successful candidate will operate as a member of mechanical engineering group part of Corporate Engineering unit of Qualcomm Technologies Inc. The candidate will work in a lead mechanical role and provide design expertise for concept layouts and design of high performance electronic assemblies for Mobile, Modem and IOT business segments. The candidate is expected to lead complex projects with both internal and external customers and drive mechanical needs for new platforms. The candidate will provide technical leadership and manage other mechanical resources while working closely with the platform design teams on covering mechanical design needs. The candidate is expected to manage activities and professional development of subordinate employees. Expected to play an active role on monthly department management meetings on staffing needs, project activities and cross-functional engagement with other groups. The candidate will interface with internal staff and outside partners in the fast-paced execution of a variety of multi-disciplined projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to influence and help adopt new mechanical processes and design methodologies.

The candidate will work on Creo solid modeling software or equivalent and is expected to have multiple years of experience on developing concept layouts, circuit board constraints, shielding/gasket design, design of mechanical parts and system assemblies, creating detailed mechanical drawings, specifying dimensional tolerances and tolerance stack ups, creating BOMs for assemblies, working with internal teams and external suppliers for design collaboration and fabrication including injection molded tooling

Minimum Qualifications

12+ years actively involved in the mechanical engineering and design of high-density electronics packaging.

12+ years experience in a mechanical engineering role designing consumer-grade mobile phones utilizing latest generation processor chips.

Solid modeling experience utilizing Creo or Solidworks mechanical CAD system.

Preferred Qualifications

Expected to possess a strong understanding of mechanical engineering and design fundamentals.

Demonstrated leadership skills on leading complex mechanical platform design through production and sustaining.

Demonstrated people management skills

Distills requirements and translates them into project tasks, schedules, and staffing needs.

Effectively delegates tasks to other team members, multitasks and meets aggressive schedules in a dynamic environment.

Setting up working detailed schedules and planned execution of deliverables for all projects and tasks

Coordinates effectively with various disciplines (CAD, IT, QCAE, CM, HW, component engineering) during project development.

Experience working with internal and external industrial designers for consumer grade product cosmetics and ergonomics.

Initiates and participates in Business Process Improvement with other Mechanical Department stakeholders.

Demonstrated success in working with HW and thermal analysis teams for appropriate thermal mitigation techniques.

Expected to construct and deliver design reviews to multiple teams and run weekly design status update meetings, capturing notes, AIs and Direction to completion

Solid understanding of design fundamentals for CNC, injection molded and stamped metal parts.

Demonstrated ability working with supplier base for successful design collaboration and volume production.

Takes responsibility for the success of the entire project, not just one piece.

Makes critical project decisions.

Effectively communicates with management at various levels.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills

Finds holes outside defined responsibility and fills them.

Anticipates, identifies, and mitigates potentially significant issues before they become major problems.

Self-motivated and requires minimal supervision.

Education Requirements

Minimum Bachelor of Technology, Mechanical Engineering;

Master degree with at least 12 years of experience preferred.
