Job Overview This is a hands-on optical design and advanced technical leadership role, and will require hands-on application of Optical design software (e.g. Zemax or Code) as well as working closely with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic work environment participating in concept development, design, manufacture, integration and testing of advanced optical devices.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a good balance between the hands-on optical design (using Zemax or Code V), practical application of optical design fundamentals and imaging system theory, plus excellent hands-on skill integrating and testing optical components and systems in a laboratory environment.
Responsibilities include preparation of cost estimates and schedules for proposed activities are additional duties. Analytical skills should be complimented by an ability to lead optical system design, integration and test activities. Outstanding communication skills are required to convey technical ideas to both the customers, contractors and to company internal teams. Support of proposal writing for optical and electro-optical system elements will also be required.
Extensive knowledge of electro-optics engineering with specific capabilities in areas such as optical design, imaging system development, or optical metrology. Direct experience in system level design requiring an understanding of mechanics and electronics including system specification flow-down is strongly preferred. Experience in the management of a team of engineers and technicians on a project or supervisory basis. Experience in the management of significant programs and projects to specified schedule and budget goals is preferred. Knowledge of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes for one or more areas of technical expertise, and possess creativity and originality sufficient to contribute new inventions, designs or techniques which are of material significance in the solution of important problems.
