Job Overview This role is for a seasoned software engineering leader who has extensive experience leading a talented and geographically distributed team of software engineers, architects, quality engineers, and engineering managers. The candidate will be skilled in motivating, and managing world-class software teams responsible for developing and maintaining large scale software cloud platforms and systems. The candidate will be responsible for designing internet-scale solutions utilizing various cloud systems and open source tools to resolve challenging technology platform problems for our customers. The chosen candidate will report to the Sr. Director of Engineering for the Qualcomm Life 2net Business.

The candidate will possess significant experience in the following areas:

  • Managing diverse and geographically distributed teams.

  • Managing teams responsible for developing and maintaining world-class cloud based software platforms and systems.

  • Working with commercial cloud services platforms such as AWS or Azure.

  • Working collaboratively with program management, product management, operations, IT, and sales/business development peers.

  • Delivering high quality complex commercial software systems.

  • Evaluating and applying state of the art technology solutions.

  • Utilizing and managing Agile software processes, continuous build and integration, and mentoring others to improve processes throughout an organization.

  • Proven ability to architect new cloud based solutions for flexibility, stability, and scale.

  • Coaching and mentoring team members to promote professional growth.

  • Managing team execution to meet all committed deliverables and to effectively deal with risks and challenges as they arise.

  • Recruiting and hiring world-class software engineering talent for our cloud based platform development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 15+ years software engineering team leadership.

  • 10+ years managing teams of 20+ engineers, including teams that are geographically distributed & multi-national.

  • 5+ years of experience leading the development of software cloud platforms and systems.

  • 5+ years experience building and managing J2EE based Web Applications and Relational (MySQL) and NoSQL databases.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Good understanding of private and public cloud design considerations and limitations in the areas of virtualization, global infrastructure, distributed systems, load balancing, networking, massive data storage and web security.

  • Proven track record of delivering successfully within aggressive timelines.

  • Extensive experience influencing and establishing best engineering practices through solid design decisions, processes and tools.

  • Experience working in a regulated environment with extensive governmental design, control, and quality requirements.

  • Engineering leadership skills, motivating engineering teams and breaking down silos.

  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to work with multiple levels within the organization and across functional lines.

  • Experience with building world class large scale web applications using MEAN stack or equivalent.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills and can demonstrate adeptness in communicating technical subjects to stakeholders and the resolution of problems through discussion and compromise.

Education Requirements Required: Bachelor's, Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science

Preferred: Master's, Computer Engineering and/or Computer Science
