Job Overview The Validation groups purpose is to develop test setups, equipment, scripts and other resources to test products including Bluetooth, GPS, Audio, Wi-Fi, FM, and NFC.

The validation of these products requires a detailed knowledge of both hardware and sw functionality. Areas included are: RF, regulators, power management units, oscillators, digital interfaces, current consumption, regulatory conformance, and audio at both a cell and system level.

The primary role for the Engineer, Validation, is to take the technical lead of a component or components in the design and implement Qualcomm validation test systems to guarantee functionality according to the device specifications and external customer requirements. This often also requires generating new test hardware, scripts and measurement techniques.

The position involves all aspects of cell and system level testing, debugging and fault finding and the communication of the results within Qualcomm. This includes evaluation and selection of test equipment, development of new tests, scripting, integrating into full automated systems, creating graphs, database manipulation, collation of material for the various design review gates and evaluation of faulty modules.

An engineer will take ownership of certain aspects of a project and will be responsible for delivering the scripts and hardware on a timescale agreed with the group leader. Tasks will be well defined and the engineer is expected to work with a minimum of supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to requirements capture and task definition, participation in design reviews

  • Task definition and breakdown including time and risk estimation.

  • Collation and summary of validation data for the relevant design reviews.

  • Presentation of results at the design reviews.

  • Develops and tests scripts/hardware of moderate scale and complexity to agreed timescales under moderate supervision.

  • Maintenance of scripts and hardware including defect investigation.

  • Delivery of high quality scripts and hardware in line with the departments processes.

  • Contributes to the creation of relevant documentation following the departments processes.

  • Conducts peer script and hardware reviews

  • Produce graphing and database scripts for the generation of data for the design reviews and communication of test results within R&D

  • Running scripts, analysing and confirming the validity of results using data analysis and statistics

  • Ability to automate standard lab equipment (power supplies, spectrum analyzers, signal generators)

  • Troubleshoot reference design boards

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven understanding of at least one programming language

  • Database manipulation skills and graphing techniques.

  • Good understanding of RF measurement techniques, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, NFC or FM

  • Good understanding of hardware associated with digital interfaces, switched mode power supplies and low drop out regulators, oscillators and PLLs.

  • Good understanding of current consumption techniques.

  • Good understanding of audio hardware and measurement techniques

  • Effective team player

  • Good communicator

  • Willingness to undertake international travel as requested to support teams in other locations

Preferred Qualifications as above

Education Requirements BSEE or MSEE Degree (or equivalent qualification/ experience) in maths/science/software/electronics/computing, 0-3 years experience
